July 2019 – Independence Day Celebration

The Vision Committee and Forest & Watershed Committee invite you to the BYC Gathering and Potluck on Saturday, July 6th!

The long 4th of July weekend allows us the opportunity to get together as a community and celebrate our independence and share our sense of place!

We hope you plan to attend all the lakeside events!

BYC Community EarthLoom – Thursday, July 4th – Sunday, July 7th

Connecting art and natural materials to our sense of place.

Nancy & Steve Sandstrom will be constructing and installing a temporary Earth Loom at the Picnic Pavilion. Work on this as you wish throughout the weekend.

“The EarthLoom is a living symbol of our intention to weave together the fabric of the community.”

What is an Earth Loom?

Earth looms are fixed wooden structures that are strung to create a loom. Using traditional fibers like wool, cloth, and string as well as vines, sticks, grasses, and reeds, a canvas can evolve. The collaborative nature of such an installation is important, as is the opportunity to look back on parts that each created. Please see the attached photos.

We will have the loom set up and warped by the 4th of July. Some materials and fibers will be available along with some basic instruction. But all are welcome to add natural items, their own fibers or other materials. Let’s have some fun with this!

Red, White, and Blue Kayak Parade – Saturday, July 6th – 4:30 p.m. launch

Water, physical activity, and fun enriching this sense of place.

This boat parade is open to any “human-powered watercraft” (kayak, canoe, paddle board)…  Watercraft or participants are encouraged to be decorated in patriotic colors. We will paddle down the shore to the Peterson fishing dock and then return. This would put us back by the time the potluck starts around 5:15-5:30. If participating, be sure to come down to the beach, allowing time to decorate if needed.
