Life at the Creek

Life at the Creek is special. We play, volunteer and have great times together. The sense of community inspires us all to become more involved in our immediate community as well as the greater Bayfield community. From Sunday evenings at the beach to trail maintenance for the Landmark Conservancy, there are so many opportunities to engage, give back and create a sense of belonging.

Simplicity is the key word for us these days. There are many evenings where we look at each other as we sit in front of the fire and smile at our good fortune!  ~Steve & Nancy Sandstrom

The unanticipated gifts of our decision [to live in Brickyard Creek] are the lifetime friendships that have emerged through this intimate cottage community, the nurturing peace, solitude, beauty, joy and celebration inherent in it all.   ~Doug & Joan Cybela

Live at the Creek

We invite you to be not simply an observer, but an active participant in the preservation and enhancement of this community. The rewards are not only an enjoyable lifestyle and rewarding investment but a feeling of being at peace from a heightened awareness of your surroundings. Play & Volunteer

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you. ” ~ Oprah Winfrey

New Events and Volunteer Opportunities!

June

June 24 - Big Ravine Project Day
In a cooperative effort among the City, Town, & Landmark Conservancy, we’re planning a series of project days in the Big Ravine Preserve during the course of the summer.

Please join us any time for our first day on June 24th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will focus on the “west side” trails, installing boardwalk in some wet areas, repairing boardwalks, vegetation clearing, and general maintenance. If we complete those tasks, we will move on to the Gil Larsen Trail. For planning purposes, please let me know if you may be able to attend.

We will meet at the access at the end of Martin Road (see map). Please bring your own work gear, such as: gloves, bug dope, sunscreen, water & food, hat, long-sleeve shirt & pants. Shovels & pruning shears would also be helpful.

Please keep in mind upcoming project days during the weeks of July 14th (focus on Gil Larsen & trail in ravine bottom) and August 25th (east side, access at Meyers-Olson Road). Specific dates and activities will be sent out 2 weeks prior.

Thanks very much!  Hope to see you out there this summer.

July 4 - 7 - BYC Community EarthLoom

Connecting art and natural materials to our sense of place…

Nancy & Steve Sandstrom will be constructing and installing a temporary Earth Loom at the Beach Pavilion. Work on this as you wish throughout the weekend.

“The EarthLoom is a living symbol of our intention to weave together the fabric of community”

What IS an Earth Loom?

Earth looms are fixed wooden structures that are strung to create a loom. Using traditional fibers like wool, cloth and string as well as vines, sticks, grasses and reeds, a canvas can evolve. The collaborative nature of such an installation is important, as is the opportunity to look back on parts that each individual created.

We will have the loom set up and warped by the 4th of July. Some materials and fibers will be available along with some
basic instruction. But all are welcome to add natural items, their own fibers or other materials. Let’s have some fun with
this!

July 6 - Red, White and Blue Kayak Parade

Saturday, July 6th – 4:30 p.m. launch

Water, physical activity and fun enriching this sense of place….

This boat parade is open to any “human powered watercraft” (kayak, canoe, paddle board)… Water craft or participants are encouraged to be decorated in patriotic colors.

We will paddle down the shore to the Peterson fishing dock and then return. This would put us back by the time the potluck starts around 5:15-5:30. If participating, be sure to come down to beach allowing time to decorate if needed.

We look forward to seeing you! And, of course, your guests are welcome to attend! If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call.

Happy 4th of July!!

There are so many opportunities in our community to become involved and inspired. Take a look at the galleries below as inspiration to sign up for that next event!
