Life at the Creek

Life at the Creek is special. We play, volunteer and have great times together. The sense of community inspires us all to become more involved in our immediate community as well as the greater Bayfield community. From Sunday evenings at the beach to trail maintenance for the Landmark Conservancy, there are so many opportunities to engage, give back and create a sense of belonging.

Simplicity is the key word for us these days. There are many evenings where we look at each other as we sit in front of the fire and smile at our good fortune!  ~Steve & Nancy Sandstrom

The unanticipated gifts of our decision [to live in Brickyard Creek] are the lifetime friendships that have emerged through this intimate cottage community, the nurturing peace, solitude, beauty, joy and celebration inherent in it all.   ~Doug & Joan Cybela

Live at the Creek

We invite you to be not simply an observer, but an active participant in the preservation and enhancement of this community. The rewards are not only an enjoyable lifestyle and rewarding investment but a feeling of being at peace from a heightened awareness of your surroundings. Play & Volunteer

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you. ” ~ Oprah Winfrey

We’ll focus on the Gil Larsen/Iron Bridge Trail, staging our activities at the trailhead on Washington Ave. in Bayfield. Expect the parking lot to be full due to tourist activities.

Our tasks will include:

  1. Secure loose boards on boardwalk
  2. Replace/repair boardwalk planks & railing
  3. Construct rock crossings in creek bed
  4. Install water bars/steps on creek bank after the overlook platform
  5. Block off social trails
  6. Replace timbers/ties along uphill side of trail & a few of the steps up to wooden bench along trail
  7. Construct cairns to delineate trail up the bottom of the Ravine
  8. Vegetation trimming & clearing along trail
  9. Remove sign at trailhead

Please bring your own work gloves & clothes/shoes, food/water, bug repellant, & other personal gear. If you are able, please also bring a shovel, stiff rake, & hammer (label with your name).

For planning purposes, please RSVP by July 12th. If you can’t make it on the 14th, but want to chip in, please let me know. We’ll try to find an independent assignment for you.

Our next work days will be during the last 2 weeks of August when we’ll focus on trail improvements near the Meyers-Olson Road trailhead.

As always, suggestions & questions are welcome.

Thanks!
